ENCAUSTIC

Encaustic painting is a very old technique involving pigment and wax on wood, board, canvas or paper.

Encaustic is both a paint and a technique. Pigment is made into a liquid paste by using hot wax. Materials such as sand, glass, plastic, pebbles, paper, twigs, paper or cardboard can be suspended in the wax.

Using hot wax

One must work quickly if creating an image. Or one may create textured, translucent layers as each layer of wax dries.
