pliable and fluid

The desire to create a 3 dimensional object with one’s hands is primal. Modeling dough for cooking or clay for pottery may have begun the journey into forming figures and subjects with symbolism and meaning on a larger scale. The sensitive act of re-forming wax, clay, polymer, plastic or any soft material can produce very subtle results. As an artist works in soft media, his or her human hand leaves a unique dimensional signature of marks, indentations and impressions.

Modeling

Modeling is an additive process whereby a soft material is manipulated by hand or using tools. The wax, clay or polymer is pliable, often formed with an attitude of lightness and changeability. The sculpture is worked on in its entirety, always keeping in mind the wholeness and spatial interactions of the solid form.
